Mental Health & Addictions Capital Redevelopment Project

ADDICTIONS EXTENDED CARE FACILITY FOR WOMEN

This new facility is a critical step forward in providing women, individuals identifying as women and their families with better access to programming and wrap-around supports that help them succeed on their journey to recovery from addiction and substance use.

Background

PEI has a need for an increased number of longer-term accommodations for women and individuals identifying as women who require a supportive home-like environment to maintain daily substance-free living. The only facility to offer this service previously offered accommodations for up to 6 clients at one time. This was no longer adequate and needed to be replaced and expanded.

Service

Applying the Community First model, the Addictions Extended Care Facility for Women is a new, modern facility that can host up to 12 clients with accommodations in a longer-term addiction aftercare program. During a maximum 90 day stay, clients participate in full day and evening treatment programming. An additional 4 spaces have been created in the day programming services and is open to individuals who prefer to remain in community during participating in the program.

Led by a social worker and a team of trained addictions professionals, the Addictions Extended Care Facility for Women supports and equips clients with the life skills needed to achieve sustainable abstinence and overall well-being. This service acknowledges and honours diverse cultural, social, and gender backgrounds and experiences.
